Gray Fossil Site Museum

About 10 minutes away is the Gray Fossil Site Museam, a Miocene site that is dated at 4.5 to 7 million years old, containing fossilized remains of an entire ecosystem of plants and animals.

A series of sinkholes formed from a collapsed cave, creating a watering hole that drew animals from near and far. For some unlucky animals, the sinkhole became a trap that preserved them as fossils for the ages.

With less than 2 percent of the site excavated, thousands of fossil specimens have already been recovered! They had fossils of saber-toothed cat, short-faced bear, ground sloth, rhino, alligator, camel, shovel-tusked elephant, Eurasian badger, the world’s largest collection of fossil tapirs, and the world’s only near-complete fossil red panda! (this was copied from the site... I can't retain that much information, especially with Robbie).

The kids had a really good time, especially Mariah who loves learning new things and is very interested in fossils and dinosaurs and all that. There was even an area to 'dig up real bones' which was the hit of the entire trip. It's fun that the kids are getting older and these trips are becoming (slightly) easier.

I love this picture of them...
Daddy and Mariah
Robbie plugging his ears (a new trick he loves to do)
it's bright out here!
Mariah and her buddy... showing off her bear print stamp
'discovering' fossils!
we spent at least an hour here...
Robbie was in heaven
So was Mariah
...still digging away...
making wishes... Mariah's wish was that she would be best friends forever with 'daddy and my new friend (our new neighbor)'. What about Mom? I guess that one's a given?

Cave Trip

We - Josh, me, the kids and Rashauna - took a trip over to some near by caves for a little day trip. I guess some guy just found them many years ago and claimed it. We were very surprised to see that our tour guide was a 13 year old boy! But we were even more surprised to see how knowledgable and mature he was! He knew more about calcium deposits, limestone, bat guano etc. that any one I know! ps: did you know they use bat poop to make several things, one being DORITOS!!!!! I still have to look into that one, but I trust this kid! We had a pretty good time, except that Robbie cried almost the entire time and only wanted ME to carry him... and he's not a petite kids by any means so my back's still a little sore. But it was really fun and educational. Another side note: they used this cave during the civil war as a hospital because of the humidity level and other factors, the air inside the cave completely inhibits the growth of bacteria and infection! You can feel how good the air is when you're down there. Here are some pictures: Mariah checking out stuff in the gift shop

I snapped this one of her at a friends birthday party the other weekend and I just love it! She's such a precious and sweet little girl. Don't know what I'd do without her!

Can YOU guess??

Which baby was given 3 cups of NyQuil before this video was taken?

Who's your vote: Robbie or Taven? leave a comment with your response.

*Disclaimer: no babies were harmed or drugged during the taping of this video. They're just really weird.
